'DD' & 'Saroja' - Hit in urban areas!
Jayam Ravi's Dhaam Dhoom and Venkat Prabhu's Saroja had taken super openings in Tamilnadu's urban areas and certain pockets in the overseas market.
Both these films came back-to-back (August 29 & September 5), and the trade feels that they could attract the youth audiences to the theatres on the strength of their music and urban theme.
The music of Harris Jayaraj and Yuvan Shankar Raja proved to be like the proverbial pied piper, as it was the music which released early to grow on the listeners.
Since both the films had hit songs, but were tactfully released in following weeks, they could cash in on the opening.
Meanwhile in smaller towns like Salem, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Madurai, Tiruchy, Theni, Erode, both are struggling to stay alive. Thanks to the star presence of Jayam Ravi, Dhaam Dhoom had a better opening in B & C, while Saroja is struggling to keep afloat.
In 2008 so far there has been no universal hit, which means a film that does well in A+, A, B & C centers or in all circuits. The seven films which have done well at the box-office are - Dasavatharam, Subramaniapuram, Yaaradi Nee Mogini, Dhaam Dhoom, Santosh Subramaniam, Anjathay, Saroja.
