Happy Birthday! "It is a lovely feeling to have two back-to-back hits under your belt on your birthday. The best birthday gift that I got was the super opening for Dhaam Dhoom, and the film turning out to be a super hit," says an excited Ravi, when he came for the Sify.com chat.
Ravi is riding a wave; this year has been great for the young actor. First there was Santosh Subramaniyam, the feel-good family drama that went on to do well all over Tamilnadu, even in B & C stations. The distributors say he is a safe bet, as his image as the boy next door has worked wonders for him.
"Among the younger lot of actors, the trade considers Jayam Ravi as one of the most saleable, as he has a huge following among the youth and lady audiences. His films assure you of a Minimum Guarantee, and if the subject is good it will be a super hit", says veteran distributor Tirupur Subramaniam.
Ravi's brother director Raja has also played a huge part in his success. He understands his brother's strength and weakness, and has worked on that to Ravi's advantage. You cannot dismiss Raja as a remake director, as remaking a film from another language is the most difficult thing. Raja is the only director who has successfully remade films keeping local flavour in mind, which has made them hits.
The buzz is that Ravi is now tipped for super stardom. His next release is noted director Jananathan's Pearanmai, in which he plays a forest guard and is said to be an all out action movie. The best thing about Jayam Ravi is that he is genuinely a nice guy, and has no star ego. Even his competitors have nothing bad to say about Ravi. He is totally devoted to his work, and a complete professional. He is on the right track to make it big in Kollywood.
